REGISTERED PYSCHOTHERAPIST

As a survivor of sexual assaults and domestic violence I have an intimate understanding of the effects of trauma, allowing me to empathize and connect with my clients on a deeper level. Because I’ve done so much work on my own healing journey, I know how difficult it can be to find peace after such a wound; that’s why I’m so committed to validating my client’s experiences, empowering them with knowledge and tools, helping them recognize their intrinsic resilience, and supporting them in learning how to integrate and own their unique stories.

“The final stage of healing is using what happens to you to help other people. That is healing in itself” – Gloria Steinem

In addition to my personal history, my Master’s in Counselling and Spirituality grounds me in guiding my clients using both traditional and non-traditional approaches. I practice from a theoretical perspective that is client-centred, strength-based, and rooted in self-compassion. With training in spirituality, I am comfortable having existential conversations with people of all faith or non-faith backgrounds. My innate creativity allows me to help my clients explore these and other complex concepts using metaphors, music, writing, and movement to create meaning and process their experience. Finally, as a certified yoga teacher I often incorporate eastern philosophies and somatic-based exercises to help clients restore the mind-body connection that is sometimes lost after experiencing trauma.

My politics and values shine through in the work I do, both with my clients and outside of the office. As a feminist I recognize that our experiences are not only personal but are also influenced by the social and historical contexts we exist in, meaning that I will often explore with clients how intersections of sexism, racism, classism, homophobia, cis-sexism, able-ism, colonialism, and a range of other experiences have had an impact on their lives. My feminism also reinforces my position as a strong advocate for other victims of sexual violence, fueling my activism and community involvement. As a queer person, I understand the importance of holding a safe space for all folks, and I pride myself in creating a secure, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment where I bear witness to inspiring transformations every day.
