REGISTERED SOCIAL WORKER

I have enjoyed helping people as a Registered Social Worker for the past 23 years. I graduated with my Masters in Social Work from McGill University in 2002 with a focus on grief counselling. Throughout my career I have worked with people of various ages, both in a hospital setting and in the community as a Therapist. In my professional career I have dedicated my time in enhancing my work with bereavement & loss. I have assisted people through the stages of acute and chronic death, issues with relationships and chronic health conditions. Based on the client’s goals for therapy, I draw on various therapeutic approaches to work together towards achieving personal growth for my client, with my main lens being Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy.

As a therapist I provide a client-centered approach to offering supportive and non-judgmental therapy in a caring and inclusive environment. My approach to therapy provides a calm and accepting space to allow people to discuss their challenges. It allows me to draw on clients’ strengths to develop strategies so they can attain goals and work towards a more balanced and fulfilling life.

I also have an undergraduate BSW degree in Social Work from Carleton University (2001) where I worked with youth and parents within the social welfare system and previous to that I completed my Child & Youth Worker Diploma from St Lawrence College (1997) where I worked with children having various behavioral and neurological challenges. These experiences have widened my scope of practice from working with teens to the elderly in all capacities.

I believe that a person can channel their strengths to overcome even the most challenging and emotionally traumatizing obstacles. In order to overcome our distress, I feel that a foundation of support and acceptance is required for an individual to fully process the path they have taken and the path that lies ahead. This belief is my foundation for what I bring to therapy for my clients. It is my dedication to you as we work through your journey together.
