Growing up in a small town has its perks. It cultivated my passion for community involvement and created a connectedness that I didn’t experience living in the city. Since funding is limited in small municipalities like North Grenville, there are gaps in the available resources that could support mental health. These gaps sparked the part of me that wanted to take action – particularly for youth. As a queer teen growing up in a small town, I often felt the need to hide parts of myself that weren’t accepted by people around me. Shame and fear were the drivers of my masking and other unsafe coping behaviours, which made it difficult to engage in meaningful relationships with myself and others. The voices I had heard played in my mind as truth rather than the harmful and outdated  ideals that they were. Therapeutic work shifted the way I perceived myself and my experiences, providing a unique lens of lived experience to support my clients in their therapeutic journey.

“You are not the voice of mind – you are the one who hears it” – Michael A. Singer

While my first instinct was to pursue a career in the legal field to support change by advocating for policy reform, my path shifted to psychotherapy. With an academic background in legal studies, I have a deep understanding of the impact that social and environmental factors have on our health. I integrate this knowledge in my work frequently with clients to support the cultivation of a new narrative and a new way to navigate external barriers. I also have a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and I am registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). In my work as a therapist, I value a client-focused, trauma-informed, and strengths-based modality. I tend to enact this by taking an integrative approach, borrowing from multiple modalities such as internal family systems, narrative, cognitive, and mindfulness.

In my spare time I enjoy volunteer work, reading fantasy novels, playing video games, and spending time with my family and friends. I am passionate about community involvement and bring valuable insight to the Kemptville Youth Centre through my position on the board of directors with my unique expertise and lived experiences.

It is my intention to create a safe and non-judgemental space for you to come and explore yourself, your experiences, and your environment.
