Someone asked me the other day: when is a good time to be honest with ourselves when we know a big change needs to be made?

They were referring to committing to ending, or finally working on a relationship that had gone bad. This got me thinking!

When is a good time to make a big life change?  Is there such thing as a better time than others?

Is there a big life change you have been putting off for years?  Maybe a career change?  Ending a relationship?  The beginning of important but uncomfortable conversations with someone in your life (whether that be a family member, co-worker, boss or partner)?

Here are some questions to ask yourself when you’re contemplating a change.  Feel free to write out your answers if that connects with you.

Where did this craving to change come from?  A specific situation that happened?  Something from my past?  Or maybe a fear from my future?

What is the worst that could happen if I make this decision?

What is the best that could happen?

Am I making this choice because I am running away from a problem, or wanting a better life?

What would happen if I didn’t make this choice?

What would this choice look like from the perspective of my older self?

Will this choice benefit me mentally, physically, emotionally, psychologically?

Does this bring me closer to the life that I want, or further away?

Lastly, what would my life look like if I made this choice?  Would I be I proud of this choice?
